In 1986, to awaken America to the AIDS crisis and to honor the friends he lost, Brent Nicholson Earle runs the perimeter of the United States. In The American Run for the End of AIDS, Brent runs almost a marathon a day for 20 months straight. After enduring blisters, exhaustion, ignorance and fear, he returns home to his own HIV diagnosis. Though the run finishes, Brent’s activism never stops. In January of 2020, as part of the production of our documentary film "For the Love of Friends," we will stage a theater show in New York's West End Theatre. I mean, I was obviously destined to a life in the theater from the time I did my first puppet performance on my front porch at the age of five. -Brent Nicholson Earle Years before his historic run around America, Brent was drawn to New York by his passion for theater. In our interviews for the documentary, the conversation often turns to the world of New York theater. Brent speaks eloquently and extemporaneously about the past fifty years on-and-off-Broadway. He speaks warmly about great artists with memorable careers and too many whose light shone too briefly. So many of Brent's stories and diary entries sparkle with a playwright's sense of action. Our director, Cara Consilvio, will stage these stories from Brent's life with artists from the worlds of dance, theater and opera. Your contribution will help us tell Brent's story.
